  • **SC.K.N.1.5 :**Recognize that learning can come from careful observation.

A: Analyze your audience:
My audience is first graders that have a knowledge of a lot of different kinds of animals. The purpose is to go further in depth and for the kids to realize the differences between the animals.
S: Objectives:
  1. 1. Students should be able to address primary differences between animals
  2. 2. Students should use their 5 senses to indicate these differences
  3. 3. Recognize that through careful observation that they can learn about more than just animals
S: Select Media and Material:
I will mainly use pictures, books, videos, and eventually go on a field trip to a petting zoo to see these differneces between the animals in real life.
Materials:
  1. 1. Books
  2. 2. Colored paper, scissors, glue
  3. 3. Computer and projector to show video
  4. iPad
R: Required Learner Participation:
First, I will ask questions about the animals that the students already know about. I will ask them what they know about them. Examples would be if they have fur, a beak, 4 legs etc.. I will then read them a book about animals and all of their different qualities. I would read them the book called “Snouts and Sniffers” by Stan Tekiela. This book goes over different animals and how they smell. I would also show them a book that has scratch and sniff and also different sensations for them to touch. After reading these books I would tell them about how animals are different but also how they are the same. Then I would let each student pick an animal to color/draw/paper cut out. (Each student would have a different animal) They would make some kind of art of this animal. When they were all done they would get into categories of how the animals they chose were the similar. After this I would show them a video about animals. That would be the first day of activities.

E: How do you assess the students learning?
I would assess them later on a how well I think they observed differences between animals. I would integrate this into a project later in the year about animals.
